Outdoor Learning: Classrooms Don't Necessarily Need Walls

Description:
This session will provide the opportunity to explore and learn how to incorporate "Nature" and "Place" into the curriculum. Attendees should walk away with some examples and ideas on how to easily add outdoor learning to their instruction. Students learn an appreciation for their environment while building problem-solving and communication skills when taking the classroom outside.
Bio:
Kelly Maxwell has been a classroom educator for 11 years with an emphasis on Inclusive Education. She has incorporated Outdoor Learning in her classroom for the last 3 years and has seen the amazing benefits on her students, educationally and emotionally. She continues to explore the benefits of tying nature and place-based learning in her profession. She has written about her experiences for the Through a Different Lens Blog and has presented her findings the Ignite Sessions for SD67.
